May we have this dance?

,

You may have seen my name, Nikki White, on some of our newsletters and I wanted to formally introduce myself. I am Mark White’s daughter-in-law. I’m married to Mark’s son (Ethan, also an artist, click HERE to see his work) and I am a former professional ballet dancer. It was actually in a dance studio that Ethan and I met when we both danced for the same company in San Francisco.

The first thing I thought when I initially saw Mark’s wind sculptures was that they looked like dancers. Both Ethan and his sister, Mandie, danced and Mark told me that the sculptures were indeed inspired by them. Some of his sculptures have even been named after ballet terms, such as “Arabesque” and “Port de bras” which means, movement of the arms.

It is my honor to now get to help promote and manage online sales for Mark, and his piece Tango is close to my heart. A picture doesn’t quite capture the elegance and grace in this seemingly simple sculpture. The art is in the movement and the illusions created by the counter revolutionary relationship between the sculptural components. In the dynamic tension between the two dancers and the nuance of the interactions in their movement.

Tango is back by popular demand! Although this piece was discontinued for a time, we are thrilled to announce that it is back in our collection. If you have any questions regarding this piece, please email us at info@markwhitefineart.com
